In recent years, no time spent in Marbella would feel complete without a visit to The Playwright and sit amongst the Irish literary greats. This restaurant opened in 2011 as the sister of the incredibly popular Beckitt’s restaurant, also located in Marbella. The Playwright is more specifically located in Elivira, Marbella, which is just across the road from our apartment. Elviria is a busy little area full of bars and restaurants I mentioned in a few previous posts.

The food, the atmosphere, the music, the staff – they’re all wonderful. A really, really nice Irish guy manages the place – very well and very professionally. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the barman is experienced and attentive.
I had the pan seared scallops with a herb crust, pata negra red wine reduction & baby leaf spinach to start and my Mam had the chicken liver pate, warm toast, balsamic reduction & sweet chilli sauce. Our delectable starters were followed by equally delectable steaks. The menu is varied and extensive, with regular chef’s specials.
We finished our meal with a Bailey’s and whiskey sour at the bar, which shouldn’t be missed – pretty much make everything and anything can be whipped up here. The Playwright is very stylish but in no way pretentious. It’s almost always full so booking is essential.
